Generally, lawn mowers are of three types – push reel, electric and petrol.Among these three push reel and electric lawn mowers are quite popular because they are environment friendly.Push reel mowers are human powered mowers, but sometimes many lawn owners look for something more that is powerful but environment friendly.Electric lawnmowers are one such choice that fits into this category just perfectly.Presently some of the latest models of electrically power mowers are channelled to the engine either with a very long cord or battery. Here are some of the pros and cons of electric lawn mowers.

Pros of using electric lawn mower:

Environment friendly: Like most of the gas powered vehicles, lawn mowers emit harmful smoke along with other pollutants in air.But with electric lawnmowers the emission level is zero. Moreover, no gas spill, no oil changing, and no air filter to worry about. Thus, the maintenance cost is quite low compared to gas powered mowers. Further, electric lawnmowers are quiet compared to gasoline lawn mowers. The sound level of electric lawn mower is similar to box fan, which is very low.

Easy Start up: Electric lawnmowers are very easy to start. It is as simple as turning the key or pushing a button. With instant on/off control, it is very easy to operate compared to gasoline powered lawn mowers.

Voltage size: Electric lawn mowers are available in different voltage size thereby making it easier for user to select. Thus, based on the size of the lawn one can pick the voltage size very easily to get the desired results.

Similar options: Electric lawn mowers provide more or less the similar options of a gas powered mower including different deck sizes. Moreover, the performance of electric lawn mower is also very similar to a gas powered lawn mower.

Cons of using electric lawn mower:

Limited cord and battery life: This is one of the biggest cons of electric lawn mowers.Generally electric mowers come in two different types - corded and battery powered. In case of corded mower it can move only up to certain area based on the length of the cord. Thus, you might need to find different plug points every time to cover the desired lawn area.In case of battery powered electric lawnmowers the engine can run up to limited time only and not as long as you want.In fact the power of battery depends on the condition and type of grass. Thus, in case of large lawns the mower needs battery back up.

Danger: Even though both gasoline and electric powered mowers have dangers to use, electric mowers are bit more dangerous. In case of corded mowers, one always runs the risk of running over either the cord or extension cord. Further if the extension cord accidentally get caught in the blade of the machine it can electrocute the driver. However, battery powered motor don’t have such risk.

Electric lawn mowers have more pros than cons. But these cons can easily be avoided by being alert. With so many pros purchase of electric lawn mowers won’t be regretted by buyers.
